Workshop Rawalpindi Medical University : Knowledge Synthesis and Translation – Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses

A three-day workshop on “Knowledge Synthesis and Translation: Exploring the World of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses” was successfully conducted at Rawalpindi Medical University from April 15–17, 2026. The workshop was led by Prof. Dr. Humaira Mahmood, Focal Person for Cochrane Collaboration at Health Services Academy (HSA), with support from the organizing and R&D teams.

A total of 37 participants attended the workshop, comprising predominantly senior professionals, including FCPS trainees and PhD scholars. The participant profile reflected a high level of academic and research engagement, contributing to rich discussions and interactive learning throughout the sessions.

The workshop covered key components of systematic review methodology, including formulation of research questions, study designs, literature search strategies, data extraction and management, risk of bias assessment (RoB2), and data synthesis using RevMan. Practical, hands-on group activities were integrated across all days, enabling participants to apply concepts in real time. Additional sessions on medical journalism and synopsis development further strengthened participants’ research translation skills.

Pre- and post-tests were conducted to assess knowledge gain, and participants actively engaged in group presentations and exercises. The workshop concluded with certificate distributiProf Dr Humairaon and closing remarks.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the relevance, depth, and practical orientation of the training. Many participants expressed a strong need for advanced and follow-upworkshops to further build capacity in systematic reviews and meta-analysis.
Overall, the workshop was highly successful in enhancing research skills and fostering interest in evidence-based practices, with clear demand for continued training initiatives in this area.
